Well, we have always known it’s pretty special to work here at the Regimental Museum, and now everyone else knows it too!
We are thrilled to announce that we have been nominated for a ‘Visitor Experience’ award… recognising the exemplary visitor experience we offer to a wide and diverse audience.
We have been building on our visitor numbers year on year and this is really boosting our profile and creating a buzz about the place. The warm welcome, knowledgeable staff and friendly approach, creates a wonderful and memorable visitor experience for all ages, backgrounds and skills!
We are always exploring innovative ways to bring the museum into people’s lives and to get people to connect with the history and stories kept within these walls. The most recent being the hugely popular Trench Project… where we have collaborated with our neighbours at the Bodmin and Wenford Steam railway and Collective Arts to bring an immersive WW1 theatrical experience to the museum. We are also offering regular ‘hands on craft activities’ such as poppy making and historical gun handling workshops, and we are well known for our ever-popular military re-enactments performed in the museum grounds. We have also joined in on the fun of ‘Fun Palaces’ opening up our museum space to the local community offering a range of playful activities as a way of breaking down social barriers and opening up our cultural spaces for all the community to explore and enjoy.
The team itself are the key to all our successes…! The majority of which are volunteers, who give up their time to educate and inspire the next generation to the wonderful stories and heritage of our regimental history. We couldn’t do any of this without them, so this award nomination is a fantastic recognition of their hard work, passion and the friendly welcome they give to all the visitors to this wonderful museum.
They are the heart and soul of The Keep!
Verity our Collections Manager is off to the awards ceremony in London on 8th August and we will let you know if we actually WIN!!
