Cornwall Museums Partnership have recently launched the 1st Cornwall Heritage Awards 2018 …and our piece of the Berlin Wall has been shortlisted for ‘The Object of the Year Award’
The awards aim to ‘celebrate museums and heritage organisations here in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly, and the fantastic achievements of those that support them’
Cornwall Museums Partnership have teamed up with Devon and Cornwall Media, and each of the 10 shortlisted objects will be featured in due course in the West Briton (keep a special eye out on the 25th January!)
There will be a public vote to decide the winner – so we’ll be relying on your support. If you’re on our mailing list, we’ll be sending out the details of how to vote when we get them, and in the meantime watch this space!
Did you know…?
Our piece of the Berlin Wall is part of the Light Infantry collection, which came to Bodmin from Winchester in 2007. This piece is one of the largest in Britain, we think that only the Imperial War Museum in London has a larger piece.
Getting a piece of the Berlin Wall this size into place on the second floor of the museum wasn’t an easy task – it had to be brought in via the fire escape!
Visitors are often surprised to see that the rear of the wall doesn’t have any graffiti.
Find out more about the Cornwall Heritage Awards on the Cornwall Museums Partnership website, and when the votes go live, don’t forget to vote for your favourite museum object (as long as it’s our piece of the Berlin Wall!)
